Students find out about careers at Sunbelt Rentals

Engineering students found out about a range of career options during a visit to the UK's biggest supplier of plant and equipment.

Sunbelt Rentals

The six full-time learners went on a trip to the Stockton branch of Sunbelt Rentals, which supplies a wide variety of end users including Glastonbury Festival and HS2.

Another key client and SWDT employer partner, Farrans, arranged the visit and the firm's Community Business Partner Karen Alexander gave a presentation on one of its current projects - building an 800mm diameter water pipeline from the River Tees at Lartington to a water treatment plant in Shildon for Northumbria Water.

Sunbelt Rentals hosts James Ellis, National Account Manger for Farrans, and Senior Field Sales Executive Phil Wickham ran an interactive workshop exploring the the students' aspirations, motivations and areas of engineering interest.

The company also gave a detailed overview of the careers - including apprenticeships - that are available in the organisation, from customer service representatives to rental and operational apprenticeships and a wide range of engineering-related careers.

As well as the technical knowledge that is needed for a role, the importance of excellent time keeping, having a good work ethic and being a team player, and being ambitious, conscientious and honest were all stressed.

Clearly inspired by the visit, the students were impressed at the wide range of careers and progression opportunities on offer at Sunbelt Rentals.

SWDT would like to thanks both Farrans and Sunbelt Rentals for arranging and hosting the visit.
