Following a work trial at leading fire-resistant glazing systems fabrication company, Fire-Tech Engineering based at Aycliffe Business Park, Jamie was delighted to be offered an apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding!

Jamie said: “I was over the moon to be offered an apprenticeship following one year of training. During my studies, I was provided with the opportunity of a work placement at Teescraft Engineering in Bishop Auckland, arranged by my Work Placement Progression Coach, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

“Nearing completion of my studies, I then began a work trial at Fire-Tech Engineering which opened the doors to an apprenticeship with the company.

"My Level 2 Fabrication and Welding course provided me with key skills and knowledge in producing components using hand fitting techniques and preparing and using lathes for turning operations, which has set me up well in my new role in the engineering sector.

“My day-to-day role involves welding, guillotine work, fitting up and preparation work which I really enjoy. I have continued my studies with SWDT, attending one day per week, so I have the best of both worlds by earning and learning at the same time.”
