Haven't studied engineering or plumbing before?
We all have to start somewhere! We offer a range of options for students who haven't studied these subjects before. Rest assured that everyone will be starting off with only a beginner's knowledge of the subject- you will make new friends and work together with our tutors to build up your skills and understanding. Most of these courses start at Level 2. You can pick from a range of different pathways depending on your career goal:
- Plumber - Click here for more information
- Electrician - NEW FOR SEPTEMBER 2020! Click here for more information.
- Engineer - Different pathways include Fabrication and Welding, Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance and Precision Engineering.
Students who have studied engineering before, but do not have the required GCSE results (4 GCSEs at 4 and above, including Maths and English), are also encouraged to study at this level first.
Already studied engineering at GCSE?
Some students have already studied engineering at school to GCSE level. Those students can apply to start studying for our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering directly from school. This qualification is the same as studying for 3 A-Levels at a sixth form but allows you to focus on the one subject you really love. This means you can progress on to study engineering and related subjects at a range of local and national universities after two years with us!

We are proud to work with a range of leading engineering companies including 3M, Hitachi and Cummins, as well as companies local to SWDT, and provide them with passionate, knowledgeable and hardworking apprentices.
This could be you! We support students seeking apprenticeships throughout the application process, helping them apply, preparing them with mock interviews and ensuring they have all the information and support they need. We have been training engineers for over 50 years and companies respect the candidates we put forward for apprenticeships, making SWDT the perfect choice to help you reach your goal.
