Performing Engineering Operations (PEO)
This full-time programme is essential for anyone starting out in a career in engineering
and advanced manufacturing. 

Students attend South West Durham Training for three days per week to learn skills and knowledge, carrying out practical work in our fully equipped workshops. Assessment is through written portfolios and online and practical tests.

PEO Electrical and Mechanical
The units studied will provide students with practical skills and knowledge of electrical
wiring and testing, and mechanical maintenance techniques including fault finding and
diagnosis. Students will work on electrical panels and mechanical equipment, developing
the skills needed to complete the wiring, overhaul and testing activities to the required
standards, also acquiring electrical-mechanical maintenance and hand skills.




Entry Requirements

Level 2
• four GCSEs at grade C or above (grade 4-9) including maths and/or English
• a satisfactory interview
• an initial assessment of Maths or English at a suitable level, where a grade C (grade     4) has not been achieved.

Progression opportunities
Students can progress to one of our L3 Diplomas once the L2 PEO has been
completed and GCSE grade C or above has been achieved in maths and

The PEO courses provide opportunities for employment in engineering
industries including engineering technician and semi-skilled operator,
which can be combined with a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.
