The Diploma Engineering Technology is a one-year full time programme on which students will be required to attend swdt for three days per week

This programme is ideally suited to students who wish to develop both practical skills and technical knowledge and have an enthusiasm for engineering.

As part of the course you will cover the following units:

  • Engineering and Environmental Health & Safety
  • Organisational Efficiency and Improvement
  • Sheetmetal work
  • CAD
  • Pneumatics
  • Maintenance Techniques
  • MIG Welding
  • Electrical

You will also undertake additional units in Technical Drawing and Mechanical Principles


How will I be assessed?:

You will be assessed through; written portfolios, online and practical assessments.

Things you may need:

You will need full PPE for undertaking workshop activities. This will include safety boots, overalls and safety glasses. This will be discussed with you at your interview.

What can I do next?:

Students have the opportunity to progress to the advanced apprenticeship or the HNC in General Engineering. This course provides opportunities for employment in engineering industries as, for example; engineering technicians and skilled operators.


Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for this programme are 4 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A*- C) including maths and English OR a Level 2 PEO qualification.

You will also be required to complete a satisfactory interview.




Course Cost

The course if fully funded for

  • 16-18 year old students
  • 19-23 year old students studying their first level 3 qualification. 

all students aged 19+ who already hold a L3 qualification and 24+ students, will be required to pay course fees up to £3,300.
